EXAMPLES OF THERAPY TREATMENTS THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION OPEN WOUND HEALING The subject was a 50-year-old male who had been a paraplegic for 35 years. He had had three operations for decubitus ulcers. His doctors told him that further operations would be dangerous and would be of little use in his case. His last decubitus ulcer was stage 2-3. The area was swollen, warm, oozing and painful. It was beginning to crater, show signs of infection: red edges, pus, odor, heat, and drainage. The treatment sessions were 60 minutes long and applied twice a day. The ulcers cleared up completely in three weeks. The pain level was reduced from a 5/10 to a 3/10 after each treatment. At the end of the three week period the pain level at the site of the ulcer was 0/10. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION WOUND HEALING The subject was a 64-year-old male in good physical health. This treatment regimen was intended to reduce pain and accelerate wound healing. The subject underwent a hernia operation which produced a four inch long incision wound in the lower abdomen. The treatment began with 30 minute sessions once per day for seven (7) consecutive days immediately following the surgery. The subject then underwent an examination by the surgeon. The surgeon declared that the subject need not be seen again and removed the Steri-Strips holding the incision closed. One year after the surgery the incision scar had almost completely disappeared. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION PAIN RELIEF BROKEN BACK This subject severely injured her lower back when she was four years old. She fell approximately 12' landing directly on her coccyx, crushing it. Her lumbar discs were crushed and one lumber vertebra rolled over another creating a concave area. Small pieces of bone occasionally break off the thin edge surrounding the area. Recent MRI results indicate DJD with loose bodies and misaligned vertebra. At age 50 years old she had had chronic pain for 46 years. The pain varied in intensity between a 1-2/10 to a 5-6/10 on a scale of 1 to 10 when she was not having a flare up. During flare ups, pain levels ranged from 6-8/10 and prevented participation in most activities. The subject often used NSAIDs to control the pain, typically altering Ibuprofen and aspirin at 2 hour intervals. Treatment began with laser therapy using 30-minute treatment sessions once or twice a week. During the first several sessions no immediate pain relief was noticed but morning stiffness was reduced. After 3 sessions some pain relief was noticed immediately and morning stiffness was reduced. Treatments were increased to three times per week and session length was increased to 60 minutes. These sessions produced immediate pain relief of from 4-5/10 to 1-2/10 with a morning reduction of pain and morning stiffness reduction. Over the course of several months the underlying pain level was reduced to 1-2/10 and the requirement for treatments was reduced to once or twice a week and the eventually once or twice a month and then every 5 or six weeks to maintain a constant pain level of 1- 2/10. The subject has only used the machine on her back one time in the last year and very rarely uses NSAIDs for her back pain. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION SORE BACK The subject was a 65-year-old male in good physical condition who had sore aching back muscles from using a post hole digging tool for several hours the previous day. Treatment began with laser therapy using one 60 minute session. This produced immediate and complete pain relief and no noticeable pain or stiffness the following morning. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION SOFT TISSUE DAMAGE The subject was a 50-year-old female who injured her knee while kneeling on a hard surface for an extended period. The injury caused edema and pain. One area of pain was noted at the medial meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and another was noted along the superior aspect of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) of the left knee. The areas were warm to the touch and painful, with a pain rating of 4-5/10. Treatment began with laser therapy using one 60-minute session. This produced an immediate pain reduction to a 1-2/10 level, a cold sensation in the bruised area and a reduction in the swelling. Subsequent treatments were necessary to maintain the reduced pain level and reduced swelling. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION SORE BACK PAIN The subject was a 75-year-old male in good physical health. The subject experienced pain in his right shoulder blade and upper back of approximately 3-4/10. This pain had been continuous for several months. Treatment began with laser therapy using one 30-minute session. The pain was not reduced immediately after the treatment session but began to reduce about 4 hours after the treatment session. The pain level remained at about the1-2/10 level for about 4 to 5 hours before returning to the 3-4/10 level. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION SPINAL STENOSIS The subject is a 69-year-old male in generally good physical health. He was diagnosed as having advanced spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal cord canal in his back bone. He also had arthritis of the spine and calcified discs. His symptoms were getting worse with pain in the 5-6/10 range. He had been treated with steroid injections which produced temporary relief. He also had nerve oblation which was completely ineffective. He also went to a spine surgeon who offered no reasonably effective treatment options. He was prescribed OxyContin and other pain relieving drugs. OxyContin was the only drug to relieve the pain but was only effective for short periods. The laser treatments began with 60-minute sessions four (4) times a week. After 17 treatment sessions he reported that the pain level began trending downward throughout the course of the treatments. After six weeks of daily 60-minute treatments his pain was reduced to 1-2/10. His remarks on his progress were that no medical treatment in the past 15 years had been as effective as the Softcure™ 96 treatments and that he thought of his new pain level as being a miracle. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION STRAINED MUSCLE The subject was a 52-year-old male in good physical health. He had on numerous occasions strained his back doing various kinds of yard work including digging in a garden and snow shoveling. His prior recovery times lasted up to six months. His treatment regimen was a single 60-minute session each day. Over the course of three weeks his back progressed from a 4- 6/10 pain level down to 0/10. At this point he returned the device. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION ARTHRITIS TREATMENT The subject was a 68-year-old male in good physical health. This treatment regimen was intended to reduce arthritis pain of the hand. The subject had a painful and swollen number 2 metacarpal head joint on the right hand. This condition had existed for more than a year. The pain level was a 3-4/10 constantly and ranged up to a 6/10 if bent laterally. The treatment sessions lasted 30-minutes and were applied once every day. After the first treatment the pain level was reduced to a 1-2/10 and reduced a little more each day for 5 days when the pain level was 0- 1/10. The pain level never reached 0/10 but was less than 1/10. Continued treatments of 5 more days did not reduce the pain further. After 15 days of no treatments the finger pain was still at 0-1/10.The lateral bending pain was reduced to 2-3/10. The swelling was never reduced. THERAPY TREATMENT DESCRIPTION SURGICAL WOUND HEALING The subject was a 72-year-old male in good physical health. This treatment regimen was intended to reduce pain and accelerate wound healing. The subject underwent a hernia operation which produced a five inch long incision wound in the lower abdomen. The treatment began with 45-minute sessions twice per day for seven (7) consecutive days immediately following the surgery. The subject then underwent an examination by the surgeon. The surgeon declared that the subject need not be seen again and removed the Steri-Strips holding the incision closed. One year after the surgery the incision scar had almost completely disappeared. The patient took one OxyContin pill the day of the surgery and then 2 Ibuprophen tablets later that day. The next day the patient took 4 Ibuprophen tablets over the course of the day. No pain pills were needed from the second day forward using the Softcure™ 96 device.
